CLARIFICATION

Clarification is the preliminary step to all untreated water treatment. It is intended to reduce the load of suspended or colloidal mineral and organic matter, before complementary treatment.

Clarification comprises a first coagulation/flocculation stage, carried out by injection specific chemical products (iron or aluminium salts, acrylamide-based polymers, etc.) enabling the agglomeration of particles to make them large and dense enough to be removed from the water to be treated.  This separation is performed in the second treatment stage by decanting or floatation depending on the density of the particles to be eliminated.
